SA Feedlot Association – University of the Free State – African Livestock Fair Beefbrands @ ALFA 2021
The SA Feedlot Association will be sponsoring a beef brands competition as part of the ALFA 2021 online program.
The SA Feedlot Association will sponsor a trophy for the overall winner and Agri Connect will give media coverage on its different platforms to the winning brand.
Brand holders will enter the competition within the categories of “grass-fed” or “grain-fed” beef. The aim of the competition is to determine the beef brand with the best eating quality within each category. An overall winner will also be announced.
Sensory evaluation of entries will take place at the modern Sensory Analysis Laboratory of the University of the Free State. A sensory panel will evaluate all entries for juiciness, flavor, tenderness and overall acceptability.
Rules of the competition:
- All beef brands entering the competition must be existing brands, visibly available at retail level or restaurants. Registration of the brand at SAMIC is currently not a prerequisite for entering the competition.
- Each competitor must supply 2 x 250 – 300 mm length vacuum packed striploin cut. Meat that is not properly refrigerated (below 4oC) on arrival will be disqualified.
- Entries must be clearly marked.
- Competitors are responsible to ensure that meat is hygienically prepared and safe for human consumption.
Entries must be clearly identified and delivered on or before 1 October 2021 to Prof Arno Hugo, Contact number: 0833880599
